First Friend

Unfortunately, it’s never going to be the same again.

I won’t become who I once was when I was your first friend.

I choose to give my energy to those that continuously do me right,

To those who give reciprocal efforts, to those who are unapologetically polite.

Maybe I was originally blinded by your kindness — was that all just an act?

You seemed to need friendship only when there was a space to fill, which aligned more with the facts.

If you wanted to, you would have – does that make your motives more clear?

Intentional actions spoke far louder than the words you thought I’d want to hear.

You said you didn’t know where it all went wrong.

But I still wonder if that’s the story you planned to tell all along.

Did you apologize to ease the weight of your undermining drunken thoughts?

Or simply to regain the control you felt you’d lost?

I’m sorry, but I still choose for it to never be the same again.

No hard feelings – no lingering onto what our friendship could have been.

I’m sure you can start over and find someone else so you can rewrite the story of your first friend.
